AM calls for action over hazardous Ruabon road

KEN SKATES, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, is calling for new safety measures on a busy main road linking Ruabon to Erbistock.

Mr Skates has written to Wrexham County Borough Council after constituents contacted him with concerns about speeding and dangerous overtaking on the A539.

He said: “The road has several busy junctions and at present only has a single broken line running along the centre of it. This can make navigating the junctions hazardous, with cars overtaking and in some cases exceeding the 60mph speed limit.

“I have written to the council to ask whether it would be possible to paint double white lines down the middle of the road to improve safety, and am now awaiting a response.”

Mr Skates said a recently-published Welsh Labour Government Road Safety Framework sets targets for a substantial reduction in road casualties – with an aspiration of reaching zero fatalities on Welsh roads in the future.
