AM calls for improved safety measures at busy Chirk junction

CLWYD SOUTH AM KEN SKATES has pledged his support to residents calling for safety improvements at a busy housing estate junction in Chirk.

The Labour AM wrote to Wrexham County Borough Council in April 2012 after being contacted by residents with concerns over the roundabout at Castle Walks.

They want a T-junction introduced, but the council had previously said new safety measures were ‘not considered a priority’ after analysing accident statistics.

However, a recent public consultation resulted in 83% of respondents calling for safety improvements at the site. The authority now says it will talk to local councillors regarding the best way forward.

KEN SKATES AM said: “The overwhelming response by members of the public shows the strength of feeling on this issue and further highlights the concerns of people living in the area.

“I first raised this with the council on the residents’ behalf more than a year ago, and I will continue to support those campaigning to make the area safer and hope their concerns will now be addressed.”
