AM Ken Skates praises staff after Chirk factory tour

ASSEMBLY Member Ken Skates praised ‘hard-working and dedicated’ employees after a tour of a Chirk factory which plays ‘a key role’ in the region’s economy.

Clwyd South Labour AM Mr Skates visited the Mondelez plant, which makes cocoa and hot chocolate products for Cadbury, on Friday (October 25) and was shown around the site by operations manager Shaun Wagstaff before meeting some of the 200-plus workers.

He said: “The company has undergone major changes in the past few years, but something that has remained constant is the hard work and dedication of the skilled, loyal workers here.

“Last year I called on the new owners Mondelez International to make a long-term commitment to the site, which is a vital source of employment locally and plays a key role in the area’s economy, and I am delighted to see both the plant and employees continue to prosper.

“Food manufacturing is a growing industry and Mondelez is a world leader in the sector. With the excellent workforce here in Chirk I am confident the plant has a bright and exciting future.”

Mr Wagstaff added: “Ken was given an overview of the site along with a factory tour, during which he met a number of my colleagues. It was good to talk through the site’s history and recent growth.”
