Council urged to act over Brymbo estate parking issues

Clwyd South AM Ken Skates is urging Wrexham Council to alleviate traffic problems on a Brymbo estate.

Welsh Labour Assembly Member Mr Skates called for action over the issue of on-street parking in Cheshire View last year after being contacted by frustrated residents, and the authority has this week confirmed plans are in the pipeline to relieve some of the pressure.

Mr Skates said: “I wrote to the council in November to relay my constituents’ concerns about this issue, which has been a problem for a long time and is getting worse.

“Work carried out a few years ago is no longer sufficient because of the increasing volume of vehicles, so something had to be done. I’m pleased that the council has listened to residents and is now addressing the matter.”

Mr Skates wrote to the council most recently in April to push for a commitment, and the authority’s reply – received this week – said: “An area of potential development for the parking of residents’ vehicles has been identified to the rear of Cheshire View.

“The scheme, which is being undertaken by officers within the housing service, has been designed and is currently awaiting planning approval.”

If the plans get the green light, funding will be sought and the council would hope to have the work completed within a year.

Mr Skates added: “Because of how close the houses are to the road, creating additional on-street parking spaces isn’t an option. I’m pleased for the residents that something is finally being done and I’m hopeful that the council’s plan – if it comes to fruition – will help ease this long-standing problem.”
