Clwyd South AM to meet council boss over axed Corwen school bus

An Assembly Member hopes to convince Denbighshire County Council to reinstate a school bus service after securing a meeting with the authority’s chief executive.

Clwyd South AM Ken Skates is backing parents’ calls for the council to reverse its decision to withdraw the bus to Ysgol Caer Drewyn in Corwen – and last month said it was ‘time for common sense to prevail’.

Although his previous pleas have fallen on deaf ears, he is refusing to accept defeat.

Mr Skates said: “Fifteen or so families are now having to walk between one and two miles along Green Lane, the main road for traffic going to and from Ruthin. On parts of the route there’s no pavement, and the parents feel their children are being endangered.

“Until very recently, the council deemed this route hazardous. It hasn’t changed. The parents disagree with large parts of the council’s risk assessment of the walk, and I would repeat my request for someone from Denbighshire County Council to join them one morning and see what they’re dealing with.”

The Labour AM added: “I am grateful to Dr Mohammed Mehmet for granting me the opportunity to discuss this important issue with him face-to-face, and I hope to convince him that the only reasonable resolution to the situation is to reinstate the bus.”

Mr Skates has invited Corwen councillors Huw Jones and Simon Watkins to the meeting, which will take place on Friday, October 16th.
