Ken Skates AM congratulates award-winning Plassey Leisure Park owners

ASSEMBLY Member Ken Skates has praised a family-run holiday park for its ‘key role in flying the flag for tourism in North East Wales’.

The Labour AM for Clwyd South was given a tour of the Plassey Leisure Park in Eyton by owners Sarah and John Brookshaw on Friday (January 24).

The park, set in 247 acres in the Dee Valley, won the holiday, touring and caravan park category at the prestigious National Tourism Awards for Wales in November.

Mr Skates said: “It was great to meet Sarah and John and congratulate them face-to-face. They are no strangers to winning awards, and it was clear to see why they are so successful.

“The park has been owned and managed by the Brookshaws for more than half a century, and it’s obviously a labour of love for Sarah and John. Family-run firms are an integral part of the local economy and the tourism industry here in Wales, and businesses like Plassey Leisure Park play a key role within that.”

The park has a heated indoor swimming pool and children’s adventure playground, while the wider complex boasts a nine-hole golf course, a craft and retail centre and more than 25 small businesses including a hair and beauty studio, a traditional blacksmith and a coffee shop.

Mr Skates added: “I was delighted to hear about the fantastic new play area which will be opened early in the summer with financial help from the Welsh Government, and I also learned about ambitious plans to enhance and extend the golf course and the landing strip for light aircraft.

“It’s a brilliant set-up at The Plassey. It’s a great attraction within itself and it’s in very good hands under Sarah and John. I have every confidence it will continue to go from strength to strength and carry on flying the flag for tourism in North East Wales.”
