Labour pair extend deadline for Clwyd South Christmas card competition

SCHOOLCHILDREN are being given an extra week to get their entries in for a Christmas card competition to be judged by the First Minister of Wales.

Clwyd South Assembly Member Ken Skates and MP Susan Elan Jones have decided to extend the deadline so anyone who wants to enter doesn’t miss out.

The competition is open to pupils at all junior schools in the constituency, and prospective Picassos now have until Friday, November 8.

AM Mr Skates said: “We decided to allow the children a bit more time because of half-term and so that anyone who wanted to enter got the chance to. We’ve had some fantastic entries already and it looks like the standard will be as high as ever.

“I love visiting local schools and meeting the children whenever I can, and this competition is always another fun way of engaging with them.”

The winning design, which will be picked by First Minister Carwyn Jones, will become the official Clwyd South Christmas card and will be sent by Mr Skates and Ms Jones to constituents, businesses, schools and voluntary groups across Wrexham and Denbighshire.

MP Ms Jones added: “It might only be early November, but we want children to get into the festive spirit early and show their artistic side. We want as many pupils as possible to enter the competition, so hopefully anyone who wants to take part but hasn’t yet will take advantage of the extra week.”

Children who want to enter should ask their teachers to send their designs to Mr Skates’ office at Unit 19, The Malthouse, Regent Street, Llangollen, LL20 8HS.
