AM secures commitment over NHS investment in Corwen

Plans for improved health and social care facilities in Corwen could soon become a reality.

Clwyd South AM Ken Skates has been pressing Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board for a commitment to investing in the town, and Chief Executive Gary Doherty recently confirmed he had “prioritised the development of improved facilities”.

Mr Skates said: “One of the things I promised I will deliver if re-elected as part of a Welsh Labour Government is continued spending on improving health and social care services.
“I was involved in the campaigns for new health centres in Llangollen and Chirk, both of which were funded by the Welsh Labour Government, and I’m pleased to have secured a commitment for Corwen too. I will now continue to push for improved facilities in Cefn Mawr, among other areas.”

The letter from Mr Doherty to Mr Skates said: “The Central Area Team, who are responsible for community and primary care services in Denbighshire, have prioritised the development of improved facilities in Corwen. This has subsequently been included in the draft discretionary capital programme for the health board.
“In the meantime, work is progressing to develop the options and agree the solution which will best meet the needs of the local population. As part of this work, representatives of the area team are meeting with the Corwen Patient Participation Group on May 19th.”

Mr Skates added: “Corwen is one of our key towns, and I know that improved health services are a priority for local people. I’m delighted plans are progressing, and I look forward to learning more about them in due course.”

Mr Skates has also made repeated representations to Denbighshire County Council over the future of Corwen care home Cysgod-y-Gaer, urging the authority to keep it open and push through plans to see services expanded and improved.
