Assembly Member Ken Skates praised the generosity of shoppers after a supermarket food collection aimed at helping some of the area’s most vulnerable people.

Mr Skates, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, visited Tesco in Cefn Mawr on Saturday (July 5) to show his support for the company’s fourth National Food Collection, held at branches across Britain in conjunction with anti-poverty charities the Trussell Trust and FareShare.

Mr Skates said: “The huge piles of tins, packets and other non-perishable food donated by generous members of the public in Cefn Mawr will all go to Wrexham Foodbank to be redistributed to some of those most in need in the area.

“It is appalling that in this day and age, in one of the world’s richest countries, millions of people are having to rely on foodbanks, but while there continues to be a need for them they are entirely dependent on donations.

“People in Cefn are always amazingly generous whenever these collections are held. I was proud to see so many people giving so much to help those less fortunate, and it was great to meet some of the wonderful volunteers who help the foodbanks do such a vital job.”
