Clwyd South AM praises generous shoppers at Cefn Mawr foodbank collection

CLWYD South Assembly Member Ken Skates paid tribute to generous shoppers after visiting a foodbank collection in Cefn Mawr.

Labour AM Mr Skates said he was proud of the ‘amazing’ support of customers at Tesco on Saturday, who donated trolley loads full of non-perishable items to help those in need.

The collection was organised by national charity the Trussell Trust, which gives out three-day emergency supplies to families referred by doctors, district nurses, schools, the Citizens Advice Bureau and other welfare agencies.

Mr Skates said: “The generosity of shoppers was incredible and the amazing level of support shown was even greater than I was expecting.

“Some people were donating a few tins and packets and some were giving almost entire trolley loads, whatever they could afford. What really struck me is how far a few pounds goes – some people were giving enough to feed a family for almost a week for the same price as a bottle of wine might cost in a pub.

“The foodbank project is amazing and survives only because of the dedicated volunteers who run it and the kind-heartedness of the public, and Saturday’s visit made me feel especially proud of people here in Clwyd South.”
