Ken Skates AM and Susan Elan Jones MP congratulate Clwyd South logo competition winner

ASSEMBLY Member Ken Skates and MP Susan Elan Jones have congratulated the schoolboy who designed their new constituency logo.

The Labour politicians organised a competition earlier this year for pupils to come up with their own ideas for an emblem to represent Clwyd South.

During a visit to Ysgol Rhiwabon Mr Skates met 11-year-old Ross Griffiths, whose design was picked by the pair as their favourite and will now appear on their official Clwyd South correspondence.

Mr Skates AM said: “We had almost 200 entries and some brilliant designs to choose from so it was incredibly tough to pick a winner, but we thought Ross’ logo was a perfect choice to represent Clwyd South. We couldn’t have asked for anything better. Well done Ross.”

The winning design includes a large Welsh dragon on top of an aqueduct, with a crest around the badge displaying the name of the constituency. Ross was presented with a certificate and an award for his efforts.

MP Ms Jones said: “We liked Ross’ design straight away. It’s clear and simple, but it is obvious a lot of thought had gone into it and it was just what we were looking for. It will look fantastic on our official letters.”

Headteacher Alun Harding added: “I’m thrilled for Ross. He’s a very creative young man and a credit to the school. I’m very grateful to Mr Skates for taking the time out of his busy schedule to come in and present the award to Ross personally. It meant a lot to Ross and the school.”
