This week, I voted in favour of the recommendations for Senedd reform.
A ‘clear and compelling’ case has been made by the Committee on Senedd Electoral Reform. The case has been accepted by Welsh Labour, the Welsh Liberal Democrats and Plaid Cymru. The Conservatives boycotted the Committee on Senedd Electoral Reform.
At the Senedd elections just last year, people voted for a majority of candidates who backed reform and increasing the number of members for the first time since the first Senedd was formed in 1999.
It is also worth noting the hypocrisy of the Tories’ position. The current Prime Minister’s enlargement of the House of Lords has often gone against the explicit consent of the House of Lords Appointment Committee and has created the highest ever rate of life peerages.
