AM Ken Skates talks politics with Clwyd South Welsh Bacc students

Welsh Baccalaureate students got an insight into life at the National Assembly when a Labour politician visited their school.

Clwyd South AM Ken Skates visited Ysgol y Grango in Rhos on Friday morning (December 12), three days after being named ‘Member to Watch’ at the Welsh Politician of the Year awards in Cardiff.

Mr Skates was the guest speaker at Ysgol y Grango’s annual awards evening last month, and was asked to return by headteacher Stephen Garthwaite to talk to students about his role.

Mr Skates said: “It’s an honour to serve the people of Clwyd South every day, and I love going into schools in the area and talking to young people about what I do. It’s really important that young people know a bit about who represents them and how, because I work for them just as I work for their parents and teachers.

“Young people can help shape politics in the future. The voting age will be lowered to 16 if Labour is in power after the General Election in May, so some students could be helping make major decisions very soon.”
