CLWYD SOUTH AM KEN SKATES has welcomed the announcement that the Welsh Labour Government will bring forward payments to help farmers worst affected by the severe weather in March and April.
Wales is currently the only country in the UK to provide subsidy payments to farmers who may be facing cash flow difficulties as a result of the poor weather.
Now around 3,300 including hundreds in Wrexham and Denbighshire will receive the advance payment from October 16, six weeks earlier than originally planned, Welsh Labour’s Minister for Natural Resources Alun Davies announced last week.
Mr Skates AM: “I attended a meeting earlier this year with my Labour colleague Alun Davies AM to discuss the possibility of bringing forward these payments to help farmers across Wales hit by the severe weather in the spring.
“I know many farmers in Clwyd South were among those badly affected. We, the Welsh Labour Government, have listened to their concerns and acted, and I am sure they will be delighted with the announcement.”
