Assembly Member Ken Skates praised hard-working staff and pupils at Johnstown Junior School after an Estyn report highlighted ‘many positives’.
Mr Skates, the Labour AM for Clwyd South, said he was delighted with the report, which was published today (Tuesday, April 15) and saw many areas rated good or excellent.
Mr Skates said: “This is a very positive report which highlights several areas in which the school excels, and it’s one that staff, pupils and the wider community can be proud of.
“The Estyn inspectors noted that most children make good progress in many aspects of their work and that pupils behave well, are eager to learn and understand how to improve their work. In addition, the report identifies that the school provides pupils with an interesting and varied curriculum – there are many, many positives here.”
The school’s current performance was deemed ‘adequate’, while its prospects for improvement were rated ‘good’. The school, which has more than 150 pupils, was given ‘excellent’ ratings for pupils’ wellbeing and the care, support and guidance they receive. The learning environment and school leadership were also described as good.
Mr Skates added: “I visited the school very recently to discuss its innovative Skills Enterprise programme and meet the pupil-run school council, and it was clear to me that the staff, led by the headteacher Robert Pullen, do their utmost every day to create the best environment for the children.
“While there is always room for improvement, this report contains much to be proud of and reflects the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of the staff and children.”
