Clwyd South MS Ken Skates holds talks with North Wales farmers and FUW leaders

Member of the Senedd Ken Skates met with local farmers and union leaders to discuss some of the issues facing the sector.

Mr Skates, who represents Clwyd South, was invited to Tymawr in Carrog, Denbighshire, to talk with farmer Edwin Jones, who will soon become the new county chairman of the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW), and other representatives including FUW president Glyn Roberts.

Mr Skates said: “It was a pleasure to visit Tymawr and to see how Edwin and Eirian’s business operates. Tymawr is in many ways a typical family farm, covering almost 150 hectares, so it was a very valuable opportunity to discuss a wide range of agricultural policies and hear about some of the issues local farmers are facing.”

FUW County Officer, Huw Jones, said: “We were very pleased to welcome Mr Skates to Tymawr, and grateful for his time. It was a good opportunity to raise matters concerning the industry, and we had a positive and constructive meeting.”

Edwin Jones was elected Meirionnydd FUW branch chair last month, and will soon begin his tenure. He is former assistant headteacher at Ysgol Maes Garmon in Mold, where his wife Eirian was formerly head of Welsh and drama.
