Ken Skates and Lesley Griffiths AM praise Wrexham mental health helpline

Two Assembly Members said they were ‘incredibly proud’ of a Wrexham-based mental health helpline which offers 24/7 support to people all over Wales.

Ken Skates and Lesley Griffiths visited C.A.L.L. Helpline, based on Grove Road, on Friday (October 26) and were given a tour of the facility by interim helpline manager Luke Ogden.

C.A.L.L. – which stands for Community Advice and Listening Line – was launched in 1995 as a local pilot project with limited opening hours. It has had Welsh Government funding since 2001 and now operates 365 days a year, helping people the length and breadth of the country.

Clwyd South AM Mr Skates said: “The helpline offers emotional support and advice on mental health to people all over Wales. Anyone concerned about their own mental health or someone else’s can access confidential listening and support 24 hours a day every day of the year.
“I’m proud that Welsh Government funding has helped C.A.L.L. develop into the amazing force for good it is today, and I’m incredibly proud that such an important service and its fantastic staff are based right here in Wrexham.”

Mrs Griffiths, AM for Wrexham, said the helpline also operates a messaging service so that people can text asking for support and receive information direct to their mobile phones.

She added: “C.A.L.L. offers free, confidential support and guidance to residents throughout Wales and I am pleased Welsh Government backing has ensured the service is well-established and able to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“If anyone is struggling with difficult feelings and needs to talk to someone quickly, I would encourage them to contact the excellent, Wrexham-based C.A.L.L. staff for advice and support.”
