I’m delighted that Carl Sargeant, the Natural Resources Minister, has announced that the Welsh Labour Government will stand up for the people of Coedpoeth and Brymbo by agreeing to pay to clear their land of lead contamination.
I have been working closely with the residents for more than two years on this hugely important issue, and I am extremely grateful to Carl for giving it so much attention. I’m thrilled for my constituents and proud that the Welsh Government has been able to deliver this fantastic outcome.
We had repeatedly called for a funding commitment from the UK Government on this, but despite helping a community in Scotland a few months before the independence referendum last year the Treasury didn’t want to help families in Clwyd South.
Luckily the Welsh Labour Government did.
